THE W.E.E. WORKSHOP SCOOP

Play That Funky Music

Get Your Party Started

With Lady D

Ever wondered what it takes to be a DJ?

This workshop will introduce you to the world of mixing digital music and you will learn how to “think like a DJ”.

The music industry is male dominated, and the world needs more female DJs so come and give it a go in a safe space.

We will listen to different genres of music to see what makes you feel good and then we will get in the groove and explore mixing styles.

Music is good for the soul and this workshop will be fun and involve singing and dancing around like a superstar DJ.

Also, it will be a laugh trying to work out what your DJ name is going to be.

Lady D will also get the party started Saturday night as our official W.E.E. Treat DJ.

Lady D

Lady D grew up in North-West England – born in the 70s, raised in the 80s and raved hard in the 90s. She started collecting vinyl records many moons ago and like every DJ, nothing gives her more power than being able to say, “I’ve got this on vinyl”.

Her record collection includes chilled out downtempo vibes, reggae, hip hop, soul, funk, disco, house, breakbeat, drum and bass and a tiny bit of indie and rock. Her first gig was just after the millennium, and she has DJ’d out a few times a year ever since.

Recently Lady D embraced the digital world of music and bought a new DJ controller – this has been a revolution and her passion for music is back with a vengeance. You can listen to two of her mixes on Soundcloud – Aroha nui which is a liquid drum and bass mix and Lady D’s Future Kitchen Disco which brings the fun party vibes “all night long”. When Lady D is not being noisy, she is busy with two teenagers and a cute wee dog. Her real name is Deborah Cracknell, and she has also worked as a mental health nurse for over 20 years. She has a master’s degree in nursing, a postgrad certificate in higher education and currently works for University of Auckland as National Coordinator for the NESP programme which supports new nurses coming into mental health.
