Bell Murphy

Bell Murphy (she/her) is an accredited member of Kia Haumaru: Personal Safety Education.

She has been teaching self defence to women, girls and members of the rainbow community in Ōtepoti for 8 years. 

Her ancestors came to Te Wai Pounamu 5 generations ago from  Ireland, Scotland and England. 

She is also PhD candidate in Gender Studies at Otago and CoPrincipal Investigator on the Talk and the Body research project at Victoria University.

Her research is focused on the meaning and practice of ‘empowerment’ in the context of feminist self defence programmes in Aotearoa.
