THE W.E.E. WORKSHOP SCOOP

Queens Of Blues

Dancing On Your Own Together

With Sibby Dillon

Have you got what it takes to beat the blues?

Blues is a solo and partnered dance that developed alongside the music and is as varied in its style and tempo as the music itself is. It is rooted in sub-Saharan African music traditions and the historical dances brought to the United States by European immigrants. It is steeped in improvisation between dancers and on their own movements.

This workshop will focus on solo movement and how we can empower ourselves and others around us when we dance on our own but together.

We will explore together the ways in which our bodies can express power and joy through adversity - all to the incredible, powerful songs of some of the most amazing blues queens throughout the last 100 years.

Sibby's been dancing as long as she's been walking (and maybe even longer), and now brings her expertise in individual movement to Black American dance forms like Lindy Hop and Blues.

She currently teaches Swing Era dance forms through Swing Riot Dunedin and has been honing her craft in these dance forms for the last 8 years.

Sibby is one of the top Blues dancers in New Zealand and loves to share the joy it brings her with everyone she can.
